Meeting the Community Around Akagera National Park

Conservation in Rwanda does not stop at the park boundary. The communities that live alongside Akagera National Park play a vital role in protecting the wildlife and ecosystem that make this place so special. On our guided nature walks, guests get to meet some of these community members — local beekeepers who harvest honey from hives placed on the park edge, women who weave traditional baskets using techniques passed down through generations, and farmers who are learning to live and work alongside the growing elephant and buffalo populations.
